Greeting friends and fans,
As many of you have seen in the media recently, DC lawmakers have proposed a 65 page document of body art regulations that threaten to effectively end safe and legal body art in our nations capital. The regulations proposed in this document (http://apps.washingtonpost.com/g/page/local/health-department-draft-regulations/440/) if passed would be some of the most extreme body art regulations in the country. Fatty and the crew have been featured recently on ABC’s Good Morning America, The Washington Post, and many other media outlets due to the extreme contents of these proposed regulations. RE: Proposed action on body art regulations Greetings Angli Black, members of the DC Council and Health Department,
I am a member of the body art community and/or a supporter of the basic American values of free speech and self determination. I am in favor of simple, non intrusive body art regulations in our nations capitol and am surprised and disappointed that the law makers in Washington DC has failed to thus far provide these protections for the public and the body art industry. However, I have read and strongly oppose Washington DC’s recently proposed body art legislation due to its focus on regulating personal taste and unnecessary over regulation of legal body art practitioners and establishments. Many of the provisions in the the proposed action would add unnecessary financial burdens on hard working legal business owners and body art practitioners, as well as limit a sober, consenting adults right to freedom of personal body art choices. To single out the body art community by imposing a 24 hour wait period on body art is discriminatory and highly offensive to me.
In addition to this blatantly discriminatory provision, I oppose the unnecessary financial burdens, equipment requirements, building requirements, intrusive government powers, and unnecessary health standards that don’t apply to body art that are present in the proposed action.
Title 10 in the state of Maryland is a great example of unintrusive yet effective body art standards and I hope you look to their model for guidance in this important matter.
