Greeting friends and fans,

As many of you have seen in the media recently, DC lawmakers have proposed a 65 page document of body art regulations that threaten to effectively end safe and legal body art in our nations capital.  The regulations proposed in this document (http://apps.washingtonpost.com/g/page/local/health-department-draft-regulations/440/) if passed would be some of the most extreme body art regulations in the country.  Fatty and the crew have been featured recently on ABC’s Good Morning America, The Washington Post, and many other media outlets due to the extreme contents of these proposed regulations.  Check out these media links to get up to speed on the issue:

RE:  Proposed action on body art regulations                                                                                                                                                                                                      Greetings Angli Black, members of the DC Council and Health Department,

I am a member of the body art community and/or a supporter of the basic American values of free speech and self determination.  I am in favor of simple, non intrusive body art regulations in our nations capitol and am surprised and disappointed that the law makers in Washington DC has failed to thus far provide these protections for the public and the body art industry.  However,  I have read and strongly oppose Washington DC’s  recently proposed body art legislation due to its focus on regulating personal taste and unnecessary over regulation of legal body art practitioners and establishments.  Many of the provisions in the the proposed action would add unnecessary financial burdens on hard working legal business owners and body art practitioners, as well as limit a sober, consenting adults right to freedom of personal body art choices.  To single out the body art community by imposing a 24 hour wait period on body art is discriminatory and highly offensive to me.

In addition to this blatantly discriminatory provision, I oppose the unnecessary financial burdens, equipment requirements, building requirements, intrusive government powers, and unnecessary health standards that don’t apply to body art that are present in the proposed action.

Title 10 in the state of Maryland is a great example of unintrusive yet effective body art standards and I hope you look to their model for guidance in this important matter.

For those of you who missed it, here is a link to Fatty’s live interview on “Fox & Friends” with co-anchor Tucker Carlson.  They discuss the extreme body art regulations that are currently being proposed in DC.  “Fox & Friends” is the most watched morning cable show in America (2 million viewers!) so our cause got a big boost with this interview.  We received emails from people all over the country in support of our position.

Just a reminder to those of you who have not yet contacted the DC lawmakers, you have until Oct 9th to let your voice be heard.  Instructions on who to contact and a form letter are posted on our “Newzblog” section so please don’t forget.  It’s your personal freedoms that are under attack and we need your support!

Friends and fans,

Thanks again to all of you who took the time to contact the DC council and health department in regards to the recently proposed body art regulations.  As many of you know, these extreme proposed regulations if passed would eliminate the ability for body art practitioners to provide walk in service and put many hard working, legitimate businesses out of business.  The comment period is now over and we will keep you informed of what happens next.  Remember, its your personal freedoms that are on the line.

The issue has received world wide media coverage.  Check out this link to see Fatty interviewed by the Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation:

Fatty’s is proud to announce that 2014 is our 20 year anniversary! Fatty’s began as a small one man operation and has since evolved into the body art machine that it is today. We’ve come a long way and we will be celebrating this momentous year in many ways.
First, we are changing the operating name to Fatty’s Tattoos & Piercings. The name Fatty’s Custom Tattooz has served us well over the last 20 years but its time for change.
Secondly, we have upgraded and simplified our website and have a new website address (don’t worry, the old website address will still lead you to us). Come check out the new site and see for yourself! Also we have updated our social media presence:

www.fattystattoos.com

www.facebook.com/fattystattoos

www.twitter.com/fattystattoos

www.instagram.com/fattystattoos

Finally, our biggest news is that 2014 will be the year that Fatty’s expands into a second location. We will make the formal announcement soon so keep your eyes peeled and ears perked for details!
Thanks to all of you who have supported Fatty’s Custom Tattooz over the last 20 years. We look forward to the next 20 years as Fatty’s Tattoos & Piercings!

Thanks,
Fatty & the crew
